From Humble Beginnings

As Oppidan Camps starts its second year, secluded in the time-warp of the Walled Gardens at Woodhall Estate, it’s a lovely moment to reflect on how far it’s come from those humble beginnings.

Back in 2016 Henry and Walter purchased two bell tents from Amazon and set-up ‘camp’ in Henry’s mother’s back garden. Now in its third year with 10 bell tents, three circus tents, 2 gazebos and plenty more, the start seems a distant memory.

However, the heart of the camps still beats strong. The camps remain devoted to their ethos: promoting confidence, instilling a curiosity and enjoyment in the children’s education and allowing a child a home-from-home experience in the outdoors. Children are taken away from technology, becoming the strongest evanescent family, with their new friends and mentors over the five days.

We’ve been delighted to warmly welcome school groups to experience our model of camp, along with the ever-increasing number of new and old campers. Our staff tell us that being on camp is an experience like no other; the real world becomes a distant memory and for  five days the camps become an all-encompassing landscape, of learning, friendships, personalities and experiences.

Behind the scenes the camps have gone through massive professionalisation, with our greatest achievement to date being awarded BAPA and LoTC accreditation. We have also on-boarded a new online booking system, continue to recruit the best possible staff and remain passionate in producing and developing the best content for these camps to stay modern, applicable and exciting for each and every child.

We are so proud of our camps, because they remain intrinsically linked to Oppidan Education’s main purpose: for children to engage in their education, with integrity at its core, we hope that children near and far will be able to experience the delight of ‘being a child’ on an Oppidan Camp.
